Altace (Ramipril) is a medicine to treat heart disease. Altace is used for treatment of heart failure and high blood pressure (hypertension). It helps to prevent heart attacks and death caused by high blood pressure or other kind heart disease.
This medicine belongs to group of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors.
Usually it is prescribed to take Altace 2.5-20 mg once a day or sometimes this dose is divided on two doses. Talk about the correct dosage with your doctor.
This medicine helps to prevent kidney failure which may occur at some people suffering from diabetics and high blood pressure simultaneously.
If you miss a dose of Altace, take it as soon as possible, but if you remembered about this when it is almost time for the next dose, miss it, don’t double the dose, this may harmfully influence on you.
Store this medicine away from heat, light in a room temperature.
Altace Safety information
Keep Altace away from children. Don’t take Altace if it was not prescribed by your doctor. Don’t give Altace to children. Don’t take Altece in biggerdose, then it was prescribed. Control your blood pressure. Regularly visit your doctor to control your condition, including liver and kidney function, blood pressure and blood counts, To check if there are any side effects, control blood electrolytes.
Tell your doctor that you take Altace if you need some dental treatment or surgery emergency help.
Sometimes this medicine causes increase of sensitivity to the sun. Don’t spend much time at the sun, protect your skin with special high-defence level creams and wear screen cloths.
If you do exercise, drink a lot of water. Call your doctor or call emergency if you suddenly felt such symptoms:
- tightness of chest;
- difficulty breathing;
- swelling of eyelids, face, or lips;
- rash or hives.
Using this medicine during pregnancy results into fetal and newborn death. Do not breastfeed during intake of Altace.
If you have diabetes, ask your doctor to control your blood sugar, because Altace can affect it.
Altace Side effects
Generally Altace is well tolerated by most of people and if there are any side effects, they are small, mild and soon pass.
Among side effects of this medicine are:
- abdominal pain,
- constipation,
- diarrhea,
- rash,
- dizziness,
- fatigue,
- headache,
- loss of taste,
- loss of appetite,
- nausea,
- vomiting,
- fainting.
As Altace is ACE inhibitor it can cause kidney failure and increased levels of potassium in the blood and a dry, persistent cough.
The worst side effect of Altace is liver failure. But it happens very rarely.
