Calcium Carbonate is a mineral medicine used for treatment of osteoporosis (e.g. bone loss), kidney stones, and menstrual cramps.

Use Calcium Carbonate as prescribed by your doctor or if you are using this medicine without prescription – as it is stated on the label. If you are not sure about the right quantity of calcium for you, address your healthcare provider.
Take Calcium Carbonate with food and a full glass of water.
If you were prescribed to take more than one dose daily, use them between equal time pause.
Calcium Carbonate gives your body calcium – a mineral that your body needs to work well.
If you miss a dose of Calcium Carbonate, take it as soon as possible. If it is too late (almost time for your next dose), wait until then to use the medicine and skip the missed dose. Do not use extra Calcium Carbonate to make up for a missed dose, unless your doctor tells you to do so.
Storage
Store Calcium Carbonate at about 25 degrees C – room temperature away from heat, moisture, and light. Short storage at temperatures between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted.
Calcium Carbonate Safety information
Do not use Calcium Carbonate if:
- you are allergic to any ingredient in Calcium Carbonate
- you are pregnant or breast feeding
- you are allergic to shellfish
- you have kidney disease or have ever had kidney stones
- you have stomach or digestion problems.
Tell your doctor if you have diarrhea when taking Calcium Carbonate.
If you are using a large amount of calcium or using it for a long time, your doctor might need to check your blood on a regular basis. Be sure to keep all appointments and laboratory tests.
Calcium Carbonate Side effects
Calcium Carbonate is usually well tolerated – it’s a natural medicine. However tell your doctor if you experienced mild constipation or gas.
Seek medical attention right away if any of these severe side effects occur:
- breathing problems
- tightness in your throat or chest
- chest pain
- skin hives, rash or itchy
- swollen skin.
