In modern science there are different points of view on treatment, diagnosing, and attitude to ADHD. There are also lots of medications to treat it. Not all medicines act at once, so your doctor may advice to wait for one or two months to see if the medication acts. If it does not, he will certainly prescribe something other. Maybe Metadate or Concerta.
The American Academy of Pediatrics advises to asses the child's heart before taking any of the medications.
We would advice you:
1. Visit another doctor (maybe your child is misdiagnosed and this is the reason that medicine does not help).
2. Follow your doctor's prescription. If after the test period it will appear that ritalin has no effect on your child, ask the doctor to prescribe other medicine.
Good luck and health to your child!
