Valtrex is an antiviral medicine used for treatment of shingles caused by herpes zoster, cold sores – those are fever blisters or herpes labialis also called herpes simplex, and treating or suppressing genital herpes for patients with normal immune systems or patients with HIV infection.
Use Valtrex directly as it was prescribed by your doctor or as written on the label if your doctor is unavailable.
Valcyclovir is an oral drug. It should be taken with food, this will reduce the risk of stomach irritation. Also we recommend to drink a glass of water with Valtrex pills.
Valtrex is very effective or treatment of cold sores, shingles, or genital herpes. However in order to get faster relief from all those symptoms, start treatment as soon as possible after you felt the very first signs of infection.
If you were taking Valtrex for certain period of time and felt better, do not stop taking it, take the full course, follow the advice of your doctor.
If you use Valtrex for suppressive therapy, take it in the same hours each day.
Valtrex is an antiviral medicine. It stops the replication of virus. However, Valtrex does not eliminate the virus, it is not a cure. Actually there is no medicine that kills herpes at all. Herpes virus is present in 95% people in the World. But most time of life it does not bother them.
If you miss a dose of Valtrex, take it as soon as you remember, do not skip the doses. But if it is almost or already time for the next dose, skip the missed dose of Valtrex and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
Store Valcyclovir at room temperature around 25 degrees C. Brief storage between 15 and 30 degrees C will not spoil the medicine. Caution! Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Valtrex(Valcyclovir) out of the reach of children and away from pets.
Valtrex Safety information
Use Valtrex with caution after advice of your doctor if:
- you are allergic to any ingredient in Valtrex or to acyclovir
- you are pregnant
- you are breast feeding – Valtrex passes to breast milk
- you have severe liver problems.
Do not give Valtrex to people to whom it was not prescribed.
Valtrex Side effects
Usually Valtrex is well tolerated. It causes side effects rarely. To avoid stomach pain, take Valtrex with food. The most common possible side effects of Valcyclovir are:
- diarrhea;
- dizziness;
- headache;
- nausea;
- stomach pain;
- vomiting.
If an allergic reaction occurred to you when you took Valtrex (rash; itching; hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue tightness in the chest;), call emergency immediately.
If you experienced any of the listed below after Valtrex(Valcyclovir) intake, seek emergency medical care right away:
- aggressive behavior;
- dark urine with or without blood;
- fever;
- hallucinations, speech problems or confusion;
- pale skin;
- pinpoint bruises;
- seizures;
- shaky or unsteady movements;
- weakness;
- yellowing of the skin or eyes.
