About Sarafem

Sarafem (Fluoxetine) is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), it is used for treatment of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Also you may use this medicine to treat other conditions if your doctor prescribes it.

You should take this medicine orally once a day, better in the morning, with or without food, or according to your doctor’s prescription. If it is prescribed by your doctor to take this medicine twice a day, you should take a dose in the morning and a dose at noon. You should take the dosage of the medicine basing on your medical condition and response to therapy. The medication should be taken regularly, then, it will bring the most benefit. It is recommended to use it everyday at the same time(s). Even if you feel well you should continue taking this medicine. If you want to stop taking this medication, first consult your doctor. This medicine is taken according to the prescription, not more or less. The maximum dose recommended for adults treated for premenstrual dysphoric disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder amounts 80 mg per day. The maximum dose recommended for children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) treated for depression amounts 20 mg per day. Sarafem (Fluoxetine) is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), it is used to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic attacks, certain eating disorders (bulimia), a severe form of premenstrual syndrome (premenstrual dysphoric disorder or PMDD). The medicine restores the balance of neurotransmitters in the brain, improves mood and feelings of well-being.

If you miss a dose, it should be taken as soon as possible. If the time of the next dose comes, you should skip the missed dose and keep to your usual schedule of taking this medication. The dose should not be doubled to catch up.

Sarafem Side effects

The following symptoms may occur during taking this drug: weakness, loss of appetite, nausea, diarrhea, dry mouth, trouble sleeping, drowsiness, dizziness, yawning, sweating. It is unlikely that a serious allergic reaction occur to this medication, but if it occurs you should seek immediate medical attention. Remember that symptoms of a serious allergic reaction are rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. You should consult your doctor or pharmacist if you notice other effects that are not listed above.

You should not share this medicine with others for whom it is not prescribed. This medicine should not be used for other health conditions. This medicine should be kept out of the reach of children. If you take this medication for an extended period of time, you should get refills before your supply runs out.
