About Zanaflex

Zanaflex is used to help relax certain muscles in your body. It is a muscle relaxant. Such medical problems, as multiple sclerosis or spinal injury provoke the spasms and increased muscle tone. Zanaflex relieves this symptoms. Sometime it’s prescribed for other uses. You have to ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

Zanaflex comes as a tablet. You should take it orally two or three times a day, as it was prescribed by your doctor. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand, while you are following the directions on your prescription label very carefully. Take Zanaflex exactly as prescripted. Do not take more or less of it. Never take it more often than prescribed.

Tizanidine is an agonist at (alpha) 2 -adrenergic receptor sites. It presumably reduces spasticity. It makes it by increasing presynaptic inhibition of motor neurons. In animal models, tizanidine has no direct effect on skeletal muscle fibers or the neuromuscular junction. There’s no major effect on monosynaptic spinal reflexes. There are greatest effects of tizanidine on polysynaptic pathways. The thought to reduce facilitation of spinal motor neurons is the overall effect of these actions.

We know that the imidazoline chemical structure of tizanidine is related to that of the anti-hypertensive drug clonidine and other (alpha) 2 -adrenergic agonists. Deep pharmacological studies in animals show similarities between the two compounds. As it was considered later, tizanidine was found to have one-tenth to one-fiftieth (1/50) of the potency of clonidine in lowering of patient’s blood pressure.

You have to follow the schedule of taking doses carefully, but if you take several doses per day, take the missed dose as soon as you remember it and take any remaining doses for that day at evenly spaced intervals. Remember, that such schedule correction is harmfully. However, if you remember a missed dose when it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose without even any doubt. Never take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

This medication should be kept in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom) and at room temperature. Throw away any medication no longer needed and that is outdated. Ask your pharmacist about the proper disposal of your medication.
