About Ponstel

If you need to treat menstrual pain use Ponstel. It may be used for short term (not more than 7 days) treatment of mild to moderate pain. Following the determinations of your doctor you can use it for other aims.

Use Ponstel following the direction of your doctor.

  • A full glass of water (8 oz/240 ml) is needed to take Ponstel.
  • Ponstel is used inside. You can take it with food if it’s hard for your stomach. But the risk of stomach or bowel problems (e.g., bleeding, ulcers) won’t be lower if you will take it inside with food. If having persistent stomach upset better talk with your doctor or pharmacist

Ponstel refers to big class of medications called NSAIDs, the exact work of it isn’t known but they are approved by FDA. Certain substances in the body that are linked to inflammation may be blocked. The symptoms of pain and inflammation are treated by NSAID. But the disease which causes those symptoms isn’t treated by them.

If a dose of Ponstel, which you are taking regularly, is missed, you should take it as soon as possible. And if the time for your next dose is almost come, the missed dose should be skipped. And you should go back to your regular dosing schedule. 2 doses mustn’t be taken at once.

Ponstel should be kept at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C). Keep it away from heat, moisture, and light. Ponstel must be kept out of the reach of children and pets.

Ponstel Side effects

Ponstel isn’t used if:

  • you have allergy to any ingredient in Ponstel;
  • you have ever had and allergic reaction to severe (e.g., severe rash, hives, trouble breathing, growths in the nose, dizziness) to aspirin or a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) (e.g., ibuprofen, celecoxib);
  • bypass heart surgery is recently had or if it will be;
  • you have kidney problems, ulcers, or inflammation of the stomach or bowel;
  • you are in the last 3 months of pregnancy .

If any of these apply to you, contact your doctor or health care provider right away.

Keep in mind:

  • Dizziness or drowsiness may be caused by Ponstel. If you take it with alcohol or certain medicines these effects may come worse. Mefenamic Acid should be used with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks before you know what your reaction to it is.
  • Ponstel should be used with caution in the elderly; they may be more sensitive to its side effects, especially stomach bleeding and kidney problems.
  • The use of Ponstel may cause serious stomach ulcers or bleeding. The risk of these side effects appears when taking it in high doses or for a long time, smoking, or drinking alcohol. The risk of these effects won’t be reduced if taking Mefenamic Acid with food. If you develop severe stomach or back pain; black, tarry stools; vomit that looks like blood or coffee grounds; or unusual weight gain or swelling, contact your doctor or emergency room at once.
  • Take the recommended dose not more, don’t use for longer than prescribed without checking with your doctor.
  • Ponstel may cause harmful effect to the foetus. It mustn’t be used during the last 3 months of pregnancy. Contact your doctor if thinking you may be pregnant. The benefits and risks of using Ponstel are needed to be discussed while you are pregnant. Breast milk considers Ponstel. While taking Ponstel-no breast-feed.
  • Certain lab tests may be influenced by Ponstel. Your doctor and lab personnel must know that you take Ponstel.
  • While using Ponstel do not take aspirin unless your doctor tells you to.
  • Blood cell counts and blood pressure are completed with lab tests, including kidney function, may be performed while you use Ponstel. These tests may be used for monitoring your condition or checking side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments.

Ponstel Side effects

If any of these typical effects persist or become bothersome check with your doctor:

  • constipation; diarrhoea; dizziness; gas; headache; heartburn; nausea; stomach upset.

If any of these severe side effects occur seek medical attention right away:

  • severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; trouble breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); bloody or black, tarry stools; change in the amount of urine produced; chest pain; confusion; dark urine; depression; fainting; fast or irregular heartbeat; fever, chills, or persistent sore throat; mental or mood changes; numbness of an arm or leg; one-sided weakness; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; ringing in the ears; seizures; severe headache or dizziness; severe or persistent stomach pain or nausea; severe vomiting; shortness of breath; sudden or unexplained weight gain; swelling of hands, legs, or feet; unusual bruising or bleeding; unusual joint or muscle pain; unusual tiredness or weakness; vision or speech changes; yellowing of the skin or eyes.

Only the patient for whom it is prescribed can use Ponstel. Other people aren’t shared with it.
