Ansaid (Flurbiprofen) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicine used to treat inflammation and pain caused by rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, as well as soft tissue injuries, such as tendinitis and bursitis.
This medicine belongs to the non-narcotic group of mild and moderate pain relievers. It is used to treat pain of many causes, including injury, menstrual cramps, arthritis, and other musculoskeletal conditions.
Take Ansain with food to avoid stomach irritation.
If you miss a dose of Ansaid, take it as soon as you remember, but do not double the dose if you remembered about the missed dose just before you have to take the next dose. Do not double the dose.
Ansaid Safety information
Contra-indication (do not take Ansaid if the following refers to you) include:
- asthma attacks
- hives
- allergic reactions to aspirin
Taking Ansaid by this group of patients can lead to severe allergic reaction. If you experienced severe allergic reaction (itch, hives, trouble breathing) – call emergency. However severe allergic reactions happen rarely.
Also this medicine should be avoided by patients with:
- peptic ulcer disease
- poor kidney function
Taking Ansaid by this group of patients can aggravate both conditions.
Take Ansaid with caution if you are taking blood thinning medications (anticoagulants), such as warfarin (Coumadin), because it may increase risk of bleeding.
Ansaid Side effects
Do not take Ansaid if you are taking lithium, because there is a possibility of toxic blood lithium levels development.
If you are also taking cyclosporine (Sandimmune), take Ansaid with caution, because there may kidney toxicity develop.
Do not give Ansaid to children.
Among serious side effects is ulcers and bleeding of stomach. To avoid this do not take alcohol while you are treating with this medication.
Ansaid may also increase your risk for heart attack and stroke.
Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor, at the lowest possible dose for the shortest time needed.
Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to this medicine.
Do not take this medicine during late pregnancy, because it can cause harm to the fetal. This medicine is excreted in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while taking this medicine.
