Wise Food Choices for people with Diabetes
On Monday, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has published the list of recommendations for diabetics concerning correct choices in food. Here are these advices.
Eat a serving of fruit at each meal and no less than one serving of vegetables at lunch and at dinner. As for bread, it is better to eat whole-grain breads and cereals. One of the best choices is whole-wheat bread.
Choose low-fat or fat-free products for everyday use. For example, buy low-fat cheese and skim milk.
Sometimes you should eat nuts or peanut butter, but not often.
As for meat we advise to choose lean meats and meat substitutes. Prepare chicken without the skin because skin contains much fat. Try to turn to fish, lean beef such as flank steak or chuck roast, boiled ham, or pork tenderloin.
When you are buying food, check labels and take dishes with less than 400 mg of sodium per serving. Cook using low-fat methods such as baking, roasting, broiling, or grilling. During cooking add little salt to food, substituting them for herbs and spices. Do not add salt at all at the table.
