Sweets do not increase Blood Sugar rates much
Previously it was concerned that if you have diabetes you can't eat sweets. However, today's researches discard this point of view. People with diabetes can use sweeteners, eat desserts, and keep their blood sugar levels in their target range.
You may use either calorie or non-calorie sweeteners, but keep in mind that you should keep your weight in your goal range. Here is the list of available harmless sweeteners for your foods:
- Sweeteners with calories. They are widely represented on the market and include including honey, fructose, molasses, brown sugar, cane sugar, and confectioners' sugar;
- Low calorie sweeteners such as aspartame, ascelfume potassium, saccharin and sucralose;
- Reduced calorie sweeteners. This list constantly widens but here are the most popular: erythritol, isomalt, hydrogenated starch hydrolysates, maltitol, mannitol, lactitol, sorbitol, xylitol.
Research has shown that the total amount of carbohydrate affects blood glucose levels the most. But, the type of carbohydrate can also affect blood glucose levels. So, use sugar but carefully.
