Researchers invented a device to prevent stroke.
People with atrial fibrillation now have a new hope - the researchers have developed a new procedure to prevent strokes for these people.
Over 60 cities in USA are lucky to take part in large trial of new method.
The main purpose of the procedure is to reduce or eliminate the need for patients to take Coumadin.
The study started out because over two million people in USA suffer from serious heart condition refered as atrial fibrillation. it is considered that these patients are 250% more likely to have a stroke. Eventually, a small device might start saving millions of Americans from having a stroke.
The procedure of stroke prevention is simple. A small parachute-like device is placed near the left appendage of the heart. Being set there, this small device starts working and stops clots from leaving the heart and traveling to the brain. Dr. Almany, the main reseacher and the author of the idea, says in the interview: "When drug-coated stents came, it was a big deal to us. I mean, it's made a huge dent on morbidity in the United States."
So, we hope that the wave of strokes will be stopped by the new invention.
