Positive News from Summit for Health of Women Entering Menopause
The recent summit for health of women entering menopause (aged 50-59) concluded that HRT does not affect health of such women. This positive news about HRT says that does not impair cognition in healthy women aged 50-59. Scientist even says that HRT can even delay the decrease of cognitive functions.
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) use declined after the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) study results were published in 2002. The results of very first studies showed that HRT increased risk of breast cancer and heart disease. However, new studies were made to prove that this was a mistake.
The President International Menopause Society, Professor Amos Pines from Israel said: maybe it would be hard to find a more distinguished group of experts in the field. The decision of HRT must be made individually for each patient, but generally HRT is a good and safe option.
Dr Roger Lobo from Columbia University, New York agreed with Professor Amos Pines and said: there is very little risk and very big benefits from using HRT, so benefits outweigh the risks in this case. However, the decision must be made only by agreement of women and her doctor.
