Is green tea good for health?
Dr. Nikolaos Alexopoulos of Athens Medical School in Greece has made a new interesting study that has shown that green tea, which is so popular in Eastern cultures, can protect heart arteries. Green tea keeps them relaxed and flexible, and the ability to withstand the constant changes in blood pressure becomes better.
The researchers found that green tea works on the lining of blood vessels and allows blood function through them more freely. Also it appeared that green tea possesses 14 more useful properties including antioxidant action, prevention of inflammation, and others.
The unexpected beneficial effect appeared to be cumulative and long-lasting. When the scientists measured the green-tea drinkers' arteries two weeks after daily consumption of this drink, they found that their blood vessels were more dilated than they had been before those people took green tea.
But experts caution that one study isn't enough to catapult green tea to wonder-drink status.
Though it has been shown that green tea decreases risk for heart attacks, American Heart Association does not yet include the beverage in its dietary recommendations. But more studies like this one may change that. If you are drinking tea - why not choose green?
