Australian Men do not go and see a doctor often enough
Australian Medical Association President reported on the conference devoted to that the Men's Health Week in Austalia began. Dr Rosanna Capolingua called on the Government to develop a national men's health policy. She said that men are the group of Australian population which suffers the greatest health disparity. "Particularly bad is state of health of those men who live in regional and rural areas", she added.
Australia had a very good and adequate women's health policy for already 20 years, and the same for men is very urgent to be developed and used. The new policy concerning men's health should reduce barriers for men to access GP for a checkup and make active preventive measures for health problems that affect men.
The main diseases from which suffer men in Australia are chronic respiratory disease and this is very easy to treat if you consult your doctor in time, cardiovascular disease which also can be treated very well, diabetes, and cancer. The latest diseases need constant attention from healthcare providers. So men need to have free access to consultations.
"We should encourage men live healthier lives and if they have better access to medical services they will address GP timely."
"Men are also more likely than women to smoke, have high cholesterol, use illicit drugs, drink alcohol to excess, and not eat enough fruit and vegetables. This group is at high risk. "
So, development of adequate health policy for men is overdue!
