Actos (Pioglitazone) is a modern medicine for treatment of diabetes 2 type. It must be used together with healthy diet, exercise and control of glucose in blood.
The usual dose is 15 to 45 mg a day, but your individual dosage can be prescribed only by your doctor.
Take this medicine orally with or without meal.
The action of Actos is based on the reduction of production of glucose to blood by liver.
Actos may be used for diabetes 2 type treatment together with insulin or metformin depending on your individual health conditions.
Actos Safety information
Take care about your blood sugar – don’t let it fall too low and cause hypoglycemia –dangerous condition which may be result of alcohol intake or lack of food and cause serious consequences, including death. Eat enough food, have healthy iabetic diet and do not skip meals.
Regularly visit your doctor and take laboratory blood tests.
Breast feeding while taking this medicine is prohibited.
This medicine can decrease the effectiveness of contraceptive pills. Take care about birth control if you take these pills, because it is not recommended to take these pills during pregnancy, this may make harm to fetal.
Actos Side effects
Such side effects as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fatigue, anorexia (loss of appetite), or dark urine can occur. If you experienced them –call your doctor or emergency immediately.
Actos interacts with liver, so it can increase increase the elimination of such drugs as erythromycin, calcium channel blockers (Cardizem), cisapride (Propulsid), corticosteroids, cyclosporine, tacrolimus, triazolam (Halcion), trimetrexate, and HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (Lipitor).
