Advair Diskus (Fluticasone/Salmeterol) is a combination "controller" medicine. It is used to improve lung function and fight asthma.
Advair Diskus is also used for prevention of chronic lung disease. It makes breathing easier because of its two following actions:
- it reduces airway swelling and irritation
- it causes muscle relaxation.
If you have missed your dose, take it as soon as you remember. But if it’s almost or already time to take next dose, miss the previous one. Don’t take two doses at once to make up the missed dose. Overdose may be harmful for your body. If you feel symptoms of overdose, call emergency. See symptoms list in Safety information.
Store Advair Diskus at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C). Store Advair Diskus in a dry place. Store away from direct heat and sunlight, moisture, and light.
The inhalation device Advair Diskus is not reusable. Discard it in 1 month after removal from the moisture-protective foil overwrap pouch or after all blisters have been used.
Advair Diskus Safety Information
If you fell sudden severe onset or worsening of wheezing, cough, chest tightness do not use Advair Diskus, because its action is intended to treat other symptoms and it won’t work. Use Advair Diskus as it was prescribed by your doctor, nurse or pharmacist.
Advair Diskus won’t stop asthma attack if it has already started. If you have a possibility of asthma attack, be sure you always take an inhaler with you.
Tell your doctor if you feel that prescribed dose is not enough and if your condition is getting worse.
Sometimes wheezing may increase right after using Advair Diskus. If you have experienced this, urgently use fast-relief inhaler and call your doctor.
If you suffer from stress, have you period, or serious infection, sometimes additional oral steroids may be prescribed. When you stop taking steroids, you may fell weakness – it’s normal, it will soon pass.

Do not give Advair Diskus to child younger than 4 years. It is not known if it is safe enough.
If you are pregnant or became pregnant while using Advair Discus, tell your doctor about this. The action of Advair Diskus on an unborn child is not known.
Advair Diskus passes into breast milk. Do not breast-feed while taking Advair Diskus.
Advair Diskus Side effects
Some people may experience such side effects as:
- Dizziness;
- cough;
- hoarseness;
- nervousness;
- stomach pain;
- upper respiratory tract or viral infection;
- vomiting;
- diarrhea;
- headache;
- nausea;
- dry mouth or throat.
Call your doctor if you feel one of these symptoms.
